SOUTH BEND, Ind.—United Way of St. Joseph County announces the appointment of Kay Evans Ball to the position of President and CEO. She will begin her duties February 18, 2008.
Ball comes to the United Way after 25 years of leadership in marketing and fund development in the Michiana area. Since 1998, she has served as Director of Development for Saint Mary’s College, a Catholic residential women’s college in Notre Dame, Indiana. For more than one year during her tenure, Ball served as the Interim Vice President for College Relations. Prior to joining Saint Mary’s staff, she was Executive Director of Family & Children’s Center Foundation and Vice President for Family & Children’s Center in Mishawaka. Ball served as the Executive Director for Oaklawn Foundation for Mental Health in Elkhart and Goshen from 1979-1995.
“We are excited to have Kay on board,” said David Ray, Chairman of the Board for the United Way of St. Joseph County. “Selection of United Way’s President and CEO required a lengthy process, but we know we have made the right choice. Kay has the right combination of skills and energy to lead United Way of St. Joseph County toward a successful future.”
Ball says her position as President and CEO is a tremendous opportunity to serve St. Joseph County. “It seems as if this unique opportunity may be the culmination of my career,” says Ball. “United Way has served and must continue to serve as an advocate, facilitator, and change agent in its response to human needs. Our vision for what can and must be accomplished will propel essential changes to help us move quickly forward.”
Ball attended Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, earning her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work. She earned her Master’s of Social Work in Policy, Planning, and Administration from the University of Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mi. In 2001, Ball received her certification in Fund Raising Management from The Center on Philanthropy, Indiana University. In 1988-89, she served as a member of the board of directors for the United Way of Elkhart County and was a member of the Human Services Planning Division from 1986-87.
In addition, Ball has served as a board member and vice-chair for Downtown South Bend; was a member of Rotary International, South Bend; served as President for Kiwanis International, Elkhart; and is a graduate of the Greater Elkhart Chamber Leadership Academy. She is a current member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
Dr. Richmond Calvin served as Interim President and CEO for the past eleven months following the retirement of former President and CEO Hollis Hughes.
