Community Corporate Service Award
This year, the Committee Corporate Service Award Committee unanimously chose Memorial Hospital and Health System for this award, which was presented to Dan Neufelder at United Way 's 2006 Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon by Rich Hill, United Way of St. Joseph County Board Chair, and Hollis Hughes, President and CEO. Community health and the well-being of children and families in our community.
Our community's health is vital to our quality of life. But that health is more than just physical, which is why Memorial has reached into the community to identify those areas that may contribute to poor health. Through that process, we have led the way to develop innovative, community-based programs for a healthier quality of life.
For years, Memorial has been recognized as much for our work in creating health as for our excellent clinical services. As one of the country's first hospitals to establish a tithing policy, Memorial funds several innovative and collaborative programs, some of which have served as national models for health outreach and preventive care.
Memorial's tithing program is above and beyond the traditional charity care provided for patients who cannot afford health services. Each year, a portion of our excess revenues are set aside to help local organizations develop innovative programs that address a vast range of risks to community health. Whether the issue is teen pregnancy, access to appropriate health services, early prenatal care or one of many other challenges, we are proud to help our community meet them.
